Despicable Me

We had a family date to the dollar (fifty) theater to see Despicable Me.  And since this is the first time we've gone as a family to the theaters we... mainly I... decided to do family movie reviews: So here we go:

CERISE:
Did you like the movie?
(big smile and arm flail)
What did you like best?
ahhmmmummumm  ahbab bab bab goohl bab bab bab ppppplllllpppppttttt

CAIRN:
Did you like the movie?
Yes
What did you like best?
I like birds on the movie... the spaceships.  I like it when they talk like the puppawaz, puppawaz, puppawaz.  And they dressed like princesses

CARRIE:
I'll give it a thumbs up.  I loved the feel goodness of villain turned hero especially since he really did steal the moon.  As a side note, the thought of capturing the moon in anyway always brings to thought Its a Wonderful Life and "George lassos the moon."  So sweet and sentimental.
While watching the film I loved Cairn's comments of "That's not a nice lady" when Miss Hattie was scolding the girls, or "Now he's a good daddy." when Gru broke into the Fortress of Vectortude to rescue the girls.

GRANT:
Comedy was the strongest suit of the show, and it's the minions who are the evil masterminds here (they steal the show). Everybody had funny lines, but the minions got all the visuals. Storyline-wise, the movie feels like it gets sidetracked all over the place and leaves some big loose ends, especially on the carreer-path/evil mastermind track. They put a lot of pressure on Gru to perform in his career, and to make money, but Gru ends the movie with no job, three additional little ones, and living off his minions, whom he formerly was paying... Frankly, I think they tried to make two different movies and squeeze them into an hour and a half. It's funny enough (hilarious, actually) I would watch it again, maybe even buy the movie, but I don't think I could get around the inevitable feeling of disappointment with the ending. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.
