Gauge is one year old! While the Strattons were here we celebrated his first birthday. This consisted of presents and letting him have his first dessert. Yup. We don't let our babies have sugar until their first birthday. This makes their first cake an interesting experiment... but more on that later.
First the gifts. Cerise was nominated to be Gauge's "helper." Below you see how well that went!
And as I'm sure you could guess, playing with the gift went the same way:
Poor boy still doesn't get to play with his own toys more often than not. But he is so distractable that he usually doesn't mind.
Now the cake. I tried a new recipe and will never do it again because it was entirely too sweet. But it was incredibly moist... Zucchini Chocolate cake. And to get Gauge's attention we decorated it with fresh raspberries.
After his sisters blew out the candle we all just sat back and tried to not interfere too much as he met his cake.
First he painted himself with the frosting. Then the fruit got plucked off.
After that he sort of lost interest for a while. And coercion began in earnest.
GRRRR after several attempts Blogger won't let me upload the video and isn't acknowledging the existence of my presence on youtube... so here are the links rather than the videos. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Of course that didn't last long so we put the cake up on the table and sprayed him clean. But this little boy is enthralled with the table and can't be kept off of it. His clean little hands found the cake... then his dirty little hands found the table, the chair, and countless other things. But he found a way to eat his cake.
Well... he at least made a dent in it.
