Happy 4th Cerise!

The day before Cerise's party Cairn reminded me that she hadn't picked out a gift to give Cerise.  So we went to Walmart.  With Cerise.  I wasn't about to pay for a babysitter to take two other kids shopping!  So we went prepared: we had a blindfold and a cloth bag.  Between the toys and the food (we had forgotten something for the party prep too) there was a display of hula hoops.  And that necessitated us stopping for some minutes.

These hula hoops happened to be right next to the cameras.  And those cameras happened to be on sale for their inventory time right now.  And the camera I wanted (just a point and shoot to be able to record our lives minimally) was out of stock.  And buying the floor model made the on-sale camera even more affordable.

So for Cerise's birthday I got a new camera!

Which means  you get to see her Plants vs Zombies party!!

The decorations:
We decided to keep the 'plants' or in little girl language the 'magical flower garden' inside and all the zombie destroying games outside.  This for two reasons: (1) In the game when the zombies come inside they eat your brains! (2) We knew we were inviting some people who find zombies .... unchristian and distasteful (to say it lightly... we were highly frowned upon to let Cairn read some Harry Potter because it deals with witchcraft!)

The pinata!  Unfortunately, while crafting it Gauge thought it would be perfect to use as a punching bag. Right idea, wrong time.  But that made it crack along the side pretty badly.  The kids got through it entirely too easily!

These were for our zombie bowling.  I love Cerise's super creepy football player zombie!

The girls really LOVED coloring these bad boys and were sad when they got to the end of the pile.

Instead of cake we had pudding-oreo parfaits in little planters.  And we had the laptop hooked up to the computer to allow people to play the game.  Cerise invited a family with all older children.  The two youngest came and they were great!  Merrill and Hugh Reed played with the kids then took turns playing the game... with all of the little kids gathered around and shouting directions for them.

More of the magical garden and our snack spread.  All of the snacks had roots in the game.  Popcorn for the kernal-put, snap peas for the pea-shooters, mushrooms and peppers... and Cerise insisted on cherries for the cherry bombs which are her favorite plant weapon.

The party:
As people came we encouraged them to eat and play.  The playroom was opened up, there was bowling for zombies and we used the marshmallow shooters to shoot at zombie targets.  The latter backfired a bit when (1) I remembered that kids grossly put their whole mouths on the mallow guns and can't blow hard enough to shoot the mallows far (2) when the kids found out that our backyard lizards like marshmallows.  It quickly devolved into throwing marshmallows at the lizards.

Rebekah, Cerise with a mallow gun and Jazzy.

Cerise at the pinata.

Gauge was sooo excited to be given a stick and told to hit something! After Cerise we had the kids come up from shortest to tallest... and even by Gauge's turn the zombie had fallen off!

Cairn made some good cracks in the side and Grant realized he had to play meaner!

Enjoying the candies from the pinata!  Cerise and Cairn are front and center.

Happy 4th birthday Cerise!
(The flames look a lot closer to the flower than they were!)

Cerise:
I like the decorations and the zombies.  We ate the dirt and jello.  We ate it all gone!  My favorite part was eating the candy.  I had lots of fun hitting the pinata and eating the dirt and candy.
