Grant here, chiming in on the family blog for the first time.
School has been a doozy lately (Carrie and I are switching off babysitting and doing homework for an estimated 6-8 hours this weekend), especially with finals coming up. That, and Career Services is also telling us law students to get on with applying for summer jobs whilst studying for finals, all while muttering asides predicting doom and gloom.
So we decided after a long morning of stuffing our heads full of academic nonsense, that as it was a free day at the zoo we deserved to go. I must admit, I had not been to the zoo here in Tucson before, and I was more than a little excited to show Cairn the live version of the gigantic poster o' animals we have hanging in her room. I think we were both fortunate that Cairn seemed to want me today, too... Carrie has a 3:00 pm naptime since she got pregnant, and she was exhausted by the time we got home.
Probably the highlight, IMO, was the polar bear. They have a water-level observation deck for the polar bear habitat, and when he got there he was showing off, swimming up close to the glass and jumping off the walls to make big splashes. Though of course, if you like swimming, the Otters make the Polar Bear's splashing look like a three-yr-old going up against an Olympic diver/syncronized swimming team. Cairn's favorites were the Elephants and the Giraffes. No suprise--They're her favorites on the poster, too. She was also excited to see ostriches and zebras, and she confused the rhinos at first with elephants. Carrie's favorite were the birds, I think. At least she wouldn't let Cairn get away with overlooking them, going out of her way to make sure her little girl saw every duck, flamingo and peacock. All in all a good day.
